Parnell Day Trip

March 21 started out rainy.
Great right? It was probably the PERFECT day to go on a day trip to Parnell.

Nonetheless, everybody met outside General Library around 9:30 am, excited to go to the French market. We walked towards Newmarket, picking up more people on the way (aka, Genelle). Everybody got to know more about each other while we were walking and talking.

By the time we reached the French market, everybody was quite famished. It was a sight to see! There was a stall for dog food, jams, fruits and vegetables, bread, more bread, pastries, crepes, desserts and CHEESE with MORE BREAD.

Everybody started walking around looking for food, being awed by the puppies/ dogs around and well, just taking in the "Frenchness" of it all. The crepes were a big hit in our group. In fact, there was a small group that seemed to be at the crepe stall the whole time we were there. :) I saw you guys ;)

There was a bit of a drizzle again, though it added to the feel of the place. It was probably largely due to the guy singing in the rain but, yea. After the market, everybody enjoyed the trip so much we went to another market "Parnell Farmer's Market".

Then we headed to Selera in Newmarket for lunch.

IT WAS AN AWESOME DAY THANKS FOR COMING PEOPLE!!! :D

Orientation Day

On a greyish Saturday morning, UMSA members gathered at Albert Park for the bi-annual Orientation Day.

After the introduction of UMSA committee and a short speech from the president, Genelle, we were divided into 7 teams for a round of Whacko!. Everyone got to know their team members better through a series of name-shouting and baton-dodging.

With the names of members fresh in our minds, we moved onto the exciting part.
Teams were given bingo sheets and a list of tasks to complete. By checking off the tasks, teams get to cross off numbers on the bingo sheet the tasks are labelled. The fastest team to check off all numbers on the bingo sheet will win the competition.

There were games of frisbee, twister, AEIOU, charades; and amusing antics to complete, such as carrying a person while crossing Queen Street, and getting a photo with signboards of all 5 levels in Kate Edgar Information Commons.

Who would have thought knocking over bottles with a frisbee was that time-consuming.

Just another day in Albert Park.
Dat ass tho.

Getting social with the social officers, and the very social treasurer.

Photo with the president!!!!! *throws confetti*

Toning 'em abs.

The highlight of the competition was Rocky eating segment. In pairs, teams have to chew Rocky sticks a la Lady and the Tramp, and present 8 Rocky sticks less than 3cm each.

My team leader, Ken advanced first, taking down the challenge head"mouth"-on.
Compromising pictures of team members were taken, and amidst fits of laughter, our team completed the challenge in record time.

In the end, my team emerged as Champions!

1 Malaysia Team No. 1(Champion) !!!!!

Prizes (the lucky ones) and free pizza aside, Orientation Day has definitely seen the blossoming of friendships in UMSA. I hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as I did, and before signing off, I shall leave you with my favourite picture from Orientation Day.

Peace out,
